Women in Leadership: The German Energy Sector 2026
An analysis of 18,329 LinkedIn profiles and 99 companies in the German energy sector.
24.2 % of leadership positions are held by women. 17.6 % on boards and in managing-director roles. 64 of 99 companies have no woman at the top. 12 % against 36 % – municipal utilities against large groups.
The drop happens at the top, not during the family years.
Women hold 24.2 per cent of leadership positions. On boards and in managing-director roles the figure is 17.6 per cent. The decline therefore does not occur in middle management, where the family years fall, but on the final step. 64 of the 99 companies analysed have no woman at the top.
Municipal utilities and large groups are far apart.
12 per cent against 36 per cent – a factor of three within the same industry. For hiring this means the relevant benchmark is your own segment, not the sector.
